What we offer
We source vacant time in self-catering holiday accommodation and gift it to families facing both emotional and financial difficulties following a child’s life changing diagnosis.
Through providing the opportunity for a break away from the home environment, we help families to enjoy quality time together, away from the stresses of everyday life and with no accommodation costs.
Time Away relies on the generosity of holiday let owners who donate time in their property free-of-charge, across the UK and throughout the year.
Accessing our services
We now have three routes to access our services, all of which require your child to be in receipt of higher rate DLA, PIP or CDP (Scotland).
My qualifying child is under 5 years old
- You are able to view and book the properties listed on our property portal
- Find a property which suits your family in our Property Portal – here
- When you are satisfied that you meet the criteria and you can make the dates, commit to book the property by completing the reservation form.
- You will be redirected to an online application form. Once this form is completed you will be emailed a booking form. Once this form is complete you are good to go (subject to application approval).
- Note: Only one break every 24 months is permitted per qualifying family.
View our properties and find your ideal break now at our Property Portal
My qualifying child is over 5 (and under 18)
- If we are offered a property donation with an imminent arrival date or we receive a cancellation, we make these breaks available to all families. We call them ‘Last Minute Breaks’.
- These breaks are listed on our Property Portal here. New availability for these last-minute breaks is advertised via our WhatsApp channel which you can follow here. Be sure to unmute notifications after you follow the channel. We also advertise them on our Facebook page too although WhatsApp is the place to hear about them first.
- When we advertise one of these breaks, check that the property is suitable for your family and that you can make the dates indicated.
- You can then complete the reservation form, application form and booking form.
- Once we receive your information, we check through everything and send out a confirmation email confirming your booking.
- Note: Only one break every 24 months is permitted per qualifying family.
Adapted Breaks – specialist accommodation for those with elevated needs (children of all ages)
At Time Away we recognise that not all families are able to access standard holiday let properties. Many of the families we support will require modifications and adaptations to enable them to enjoy a break away from home.
We now provide breaks in adapted properties to ensure as many people as possible can enjoy some Time Away. These breaks will operate slightly differently from our regular offering. Because the type of properties suitable are specialist and therefore less common, we are less likely to receive donations in these type of properties. Time Away will directly fund these breaks and as such we will make case by case assessments of each application to determine how we allocate these breaks.

To qualify:
- You care for a child under 18 years old
- The qualifying child receives higher rate DLA, PIP or Child Disability Payment (Scotland)
- You will take the break with the qualifying child, as a family (plus support carers if required)
Please be aware that demand is high for our Adapted break service so if you are able to work with either of the two alternative routes to access a break, we advise trying those first.
